Spray-and-pray is dead. Long live Micro-Campaigns.
If your outbound playbook is a dusty HubSpot template and a prayer emoji... you’re doing it wrong.
Let’s cut the small talk: if your outbound is flatlining, the last thing you need is a TED Talk on “pipeline theory.”
You need replies. Fast. Real ones. From real people. Who don’t hate you.
Most outbound advice is just recycled sales-bro folklore:
➡️ Blast 1,000 leads.
➡️ Copy-paste your “personalized” intro.
➡️ Cry into your Salesforce dashboard when nothing converts.
That’s not strategy. That’s spam.
What actually works? Micro-campaigns.
Small, specific, sniper-style outreach with actual context.
Instead of dumping a generic sequence into 1,000 inboxes and praying to the email gods, try this:
Target 200 leads max.
Segment by a real trigger (job change, funding, tech stack, etc.)
Run 1–2 versions.
Measure based on conversations, not clicks.
Now throw in AI, not to write for you, but to think with you:
Scrape real context.
Draft intros tied to reality.
Flag real triggers.
And yes, generate variants… that still need your human brain to not suck.
That last 20%? That’s where most teams eat dirt.
Tone. Brevity. Judgment. If you don’t read your own email and think, “I’d reply to this,” why would they?
Here’s the playbook we wish we had when we started:
Week 1–2: Foundation.
✅ Define ICP by pain, not by title.
✅ Set up and warm domains.
✅ Build a concise, high-quality list (100–200 leads).
Week 3–4: First Sends.
✅ Launch 1–2 micro-campaigns.
✅ Read replies like they’re gold.
✅ Refine copy with feedback, not vibes.
Week 5–9: Experiment Mode.
✅ Test subject lines and angles.
✅ Add LinkedIn/calls for high-value targets.
✅ Track who books, not just who replies.
Week 10–12: Lock + Load.
✅ Identify what actually converts.
✅ Build playbooks from real data.
✅ Prep for scale without nuking your reply rate.
Bottom line? Outbound works. But only if you stop writing like a bot and start building like a human.
You don’t need 10,000 contacts. You need 200 who actually give a damn.
